Minerva reports good results and shows signs of recovery

Brazilian meatpacker Frigorífico Minerva has issued a report containing encouraging results for the first quarter of 2009.

Revenue reached the level of US$ 299.6 million, which represents a 23.6% growth in compared to the last quarter of 2008, and of 25.8% on the first three months of last year.

Production capacity, which has been cut back in the face of the Brazilian meat sector’s recent problems, returned to a level of around 80% in March. The company has decided to increase production by 25% as of May, working double shifts in some units and hiring approximately 350 new employees.

Earnings grew by 11.6% compared to the last quarter of 2008 to a total of US$156 million.
