Sheep product exports down 12.9%

Uruguay’s National Customs Directorate and the Uruguayan Wool Secretariat (SUL) have announced that between April 1, 2008, and March 31, 2009, Uruguayan sheep product exports (including skins, wool and wool products, lamb and livestock) totalled US$278.9 million,  a drop of 12.9% compared with the April 2007 to March 2008 period.

Wool and wool products accounted for 72.4% of total sheep product exports with revenues of US$202 million, 20.4% below the prior-year period. However, lamb exports totalled US$69 million, up 31.1%, sheepskin exports increased 39.3% to US$3.5 million and exports of live sheep rose 62.2% to US$4.1 million.
