Leathergoods sales give PPR results a boost
French luxury goods group PPR has posted consolidated sales of €4.8 billion for the first quarter of 2009, a decline of 2.6% compared with the first quarter of 2008.
The contribution of the group's activities outside France continued to increase, representing 63.6% of total sales in the first quarter compared with 62.4% on a comparable basis in the first quarter of 2008. PPR also boosted sales generated through the strategic e-commerce channel, with revenues up 7% on a comparable basis in the first quarter.
Gucci Group sales fell 3.4% in the first quarter; however, comparable leathergoods sales for the Gucci Group were up 2%. Sales were up 21% in emerging markets, which accounted for 32% of its total sales in the quarter.
First quarter sales for the Gucci brand were up 1%, with fashion and leathergoods sales up 4%.
However, Yves Saint Laurent sales were down 10.2% and fashion and leathergoods sales fell during the quarter.
