According to Teo Romero, chairman of European textile association ACTE, cooperation between nations will help companies in the leather, footwear, textile and apparel sectors to deal with the current economic downturn.

At the international ACTE assembly recently held in Macerato, Mr Romero said: "We must develop a joint strategy between different countries to boost employment at this time of economic crisis which will push out of the market companies that are no longer competitive while others who have internationalised and invested in innovation and research, are managing to overcome the economy and, despite the reduction in consumption, are showing good resistance."

ACTE represents more than 100 members across
Europe including members from more traditional markets, such as Spain, Italy, France and Portugal as well as emerging markets such as Poland, Macedonia and Croatia
