The Zhejiang-based National Center for Leather Quality Supervision and Inspection has won the award for Outstanding Scientific and Technical for its research on leather testing technologies. The award was given by the China National Light Industry Council.

The research enables experts to detect hexavalent chrome in leather and leathergoods and to detect formaldehyde content in leather chemicals. It also focuses on mould testing methods and thermal stability testing technology.
