Clariant’s leather division has held three global development workshops specifically aimed at the footwear sector. The company maintained its strong focus on trend, innovation, performance and ecology during these sessions.

The workshops took place in Chennai, India, Guangzhou, China, and Novo Hamburgo, Brazil. The objective was to generate innovative and fashionable ideas to cater for customers’ needs in the respective regions and countries. Local teams were supported by project leader Ralph Schneider from Germany along with various international technicians responsible for the respective countries.

Hubert Kollmar, head of leather business for Latin America, said: “Specifically, the shoe segment will be the focus for our future growth. The results of our workshops clearly demonstrate our leading position in this area of innovative leather chemicals, based on our commitment to provide real solutions for our special customer requirements. Clariant provides application know-how, based on an updated product portfolio for all segments of our industry.”

According to Clariant, the current economic climate has made it even more imperative for tanners to generate new ideas and to explore new areas of business as well as looking at safety and environmentally friendly processing.
