Leathergoods exports fall
According to the China Leather Industry Association, Chinese leather garment exports have been declining for several years. However, the rate of decline appears to be accelerating, with volume of leather garment exports falling 58.6% in February and the value dropping 34.5%.
During the first two months of the year, China exported 1.71 million pieces of leather apparel worth $88 million, down 44.6% and 26%, respectively.
Furthermore, the value of Chinese leather handbag and travel goods exports fell for the first time in February. The value of these exports fell 30.7% year-on-year in February. During the first two months of the year, leather handbag and travel goods exports fell 7.3% to $1.77 billion.
