Increased interest in FDDI placements
According to the Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), more and more people are showing interest in its placement scheme.
Despite the global economic slowdown, the institute has seen many international retail, leathergoods and footwear companies take part in the various professional programmes conducted through the Centre for Retail Management (CRM), Centre for Leather Goods & Accessories Design (CLGAD) & Centre for Footwear Design & Technology (CFDT) at the institute this season.
So far, around 70% CRM students, 55%-60% students at CLGAD and more than 55% students at CFDT have been employed by respective industries following the placement.
According to Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI: “Due to the value based education culture at FDDI, the students are managing to bag diverse offers despite the global economic downturn with pay packets a tad lower from last year. This is perhaps, because the job market is down and companies are trying to negotiate on the salaries.”
This year, the campus placement has seen more than 120 major international retail, leather goods and footwear companies select students through campus placements.
“Anticipating the future consequences of the recent global economy meltdown, the institute also plans to incorporate industry, alumni and students’ feedback to fine tune the 2010 placement season,” said Mr Lakhara. “In another month-long rolling process, more companies are expected to visit FDDI for the campus recruitment process and with this, we are optimistic that this year too, FDDI will achieve 100% placement for its students,” he added.
