Meetings before APLF

30/03/2009

The International Council of Tanners (ICT) and the International Council of Hides, Skins, and Leather Traders’ Associations (ICHSLTA) held a joint-dinner in Hong Kong on March 30, on the eve of the APLF exhibition in the Special Administrative Region.

Addressing the dinner, which took place after meetings that both bodies had held during the day, Madam Zhang Shuhua,
chairman of the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) and president of ICHSLTA, said: “Despite the economic crisis, we have still gathered together to discuss the future development of the world leather industry. This year is the eightieth anniverary of the founding of ICHSLTA. History always throws up amazing coincidences, because ICHSLTA was founded in 1929, the year of the Wall Street Crash. We’re facing an even worse economic crisis now, but I hope we will still be able to collaborate and continue to make our contributions to the world leather industry.”

ICT secretary, Paul Pearson, said in reply: “We appreciate the cooperation we have received from ICHSLTA, and we feel we need to continue to develop our relationship. We shall speak over the course of APLF about the further options we have.”
