The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) of Bangladesh has reported that total leather-sector exports declined by 10.4% to $239.9 million in the first seven months of the present financial year (July–June) from $267.6 million in the same period last year.
Finished leather exports fell by $115.9 million compared to $170.07 million in corresponding period last year, a drop of 31.8%. However, on positive note, Bangladesh exported leather footwear worth $115.8 million from $91.9 million, showing a growth of 25.9%. Exports of leathergoods also showed impressive growth, rising by 44.8% to just over $8 million.
Bangladesh has set an export target of $526.1 million for the leather sector in this financial year, up from $462.9 million for the previous year.
