State aids launch of new tannery

As a result of the investment incentive policy by the government of the state of Bahia, Brazil, a new abattoir and meat-packing plant has opened in the city of Alagoinhas.

The facility will be known as Frigoalas and will serve as a regional abattoir and meat-packing plant. It will have a daily slaughter capacity of 1,100 head on average and will have the ability to process bovine, pig, goat and sheep livestock. The initial investment was approximately US$ 6 million. The state expects the project to generate 200 direct jobs and at least 400 indirect jobs.
