Bank will maintain beef sector support

The president of Brazil’s National Bank of Social and Economic Development (BNDES), Luciano Coutinho, has said his bank sees no reason why the difficulties some of the major packing companies have experienced in recent weeks should continue.
Mr Coutinho said there was no systematic problem with Brazil’s beef sector, only temporary problems, and he went on to say that BNDES would back future mergers and acquisitions in the industry. “As long as there is restructuring of business that creates value and solves problems, the bank would give support,” he said.
