Dow Europe announces price increase
23/03/2009
Specialist chemical supplier Dow Europe has announced a price increase for its glycol ethers portfolio.
Glycol ethers are solvents that are often used in leather dyeing applications; the solvents are used to improve leveling, penetration, and
evaporation control in dyeing operations.
From April 1, 2009, or as contracts allow, Dow Europe will put the price of its glycol ethers portfolio by EUR 50 to EUR 70 per metric tonne, dependent upon grade.
The company said this increase was required to address what it called “margin compression”. Martin Sutcliffe, global business director for glycol ethers, explained: “The rapid decline in price has left margins at unsustainable levels. We must improve our margins, so we can afford to compete for raw materials and make the products our customers need.”
