17/03/2009
Leather-sector companies, some of their customers in the fashion business and workers’ organisations in Florence have agreed to set up a combined watchdog body to monitor the effects on the industry of the global economic situation.
The organisations involved agreed that it was important for the ‘know-how’ of specialist leather and leathergoods suppliers to continue to be available to fasion brands at regional and national levels.
In the last three months of 2008, the authoirites in Tuscany have said that internal demand for locally produced leather fell by 18.6%, while demand from outside Italy declined by 11.5% over the same period.
