12/03/2009
A 50-strong Chinese delegation visited Sri Lanka recently in an attempt to open up new avenues of economic cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the leather and chemicals sectors.
The head of the delegation, Mr Shicheng Wang, who is also the vice-president of the National Light Industry council, said: "Sri Lanka is an excellent location for investment and the delegation got to know about the generous incentives available."
The Chinese delegation reported that it had been impressed by what Sri Lanka had to offer. China has said it will move quickly to set up joint ventures and to make Sri Lanka a platform for exporting Chinese goods to the US, the European Union and other markets.
