Flooring trends lean towards leather

The World Floor Covering Association has included leather in several of the trends it has highlighted for this aspect of interior design for the months ahead.

For laminate flooring, the California-based association is enthusiastic about a new combination of leather, natural cork, and linoleum surface-treatments that are stabilised on planks. It said this mix of materials was helping flooring providers offer a more environmentally friendly product, while still having easy-clean and scratch-resistant quailties.

Flooring manufacturers are also using 100% recycled leather planks in a broad spectrum of shades and textures, which include crocodile effects.

"With today's economic challenges, people everywhere are focusing more on their home environments and creature comforts," said Christopher Davis, president and chief executive officer of the association. "Manufacturers across the globe have listened to customers and have delivered an array of introductions that are certain not to disappoint."
