Cattle slaughterings down 3.4% in December
The number of cattle slaughtered in December 2007 was 3.4% lower than in December 2006.
A comparison of December 2007 and 2006 figures shows:
- Sheep slaughterings decreased by 11.5%.
- Pig slaughterings decreased by 7.1%.
The number of cattle slaughterings in 2007 was 0.1% lower than the corresponding 2006 figure. Over the same period there was a decrease of 6.3% in sheep slaughterings and a decrease of 1.6% in pig slaughterings.
Between the periods January to September 2006 and 2007, the United Kingdom, France and Greece recorded decreases in sheep slaughterings of 5.4%, 3.5% and 3.4% respectively. Spain recorded an increase of 3.2%.
