Sheep slaughterings down 8% in July
The number of sheep slaughtered in July 2007 was 8.0% lower than in July 2006.
A comparison of July 2007 and 2006 figures shows that:
- Cattle slaughterings remain unchanged
- Pig slaughterings decreased by 2.3%
The number of cattle slaughterings in January-July 2007 was 0.3% lower than the corresponding 2006 figure. Over the same period there was a decrease of 11.3% in sheep slaughterings and an increase of 0.2% in pig slaughterings.
Between the periods January to April 2006 and 2007, Germany, Italy and France recorded decreases in cattle slaughterings of 3.8%, 1.5%, and 1.0% respectively.
United Kingdom and Ireland recorded increases of 6.6% and 2.5%.
