Cattle slaughterings down 11.2% in June
The number of cattle slaughtered in June 2007 was 11.2% lower than in June 2006.
A comparison of June 2007 and 2006 figures shows that:
- Sheep slaughterings decreased by 17.6%
- Pig slaughterings decreased by 7.8%
The number of cattle slaughterings in January-June 2007 was 0.3% lower than the corresponding 2006 figure. Over the same period there was a decrease of 12.2% in sheep slaughterings and an increase of 0.7% in pig slaughterings.
Between the periods January to March 2006 and 2007, Ireland, Germany, Spain and United Kingdom recorded increases in pig slaughterings of 4.9%, 7.5%, 6.8% and 3.9% respectively.
