US export sales for week ending 04/01/2007
Hides and Skins: Net sales for the 2007 marketing year (which began January 1) were 428,800 pieces, including 424,600 pieces of whole cattle hides. The major buyers of whole cattle hides were China (259,900 pieces), South Korea (105,800 pieces), Thailand (28,400 pieces) and Taiwan (16,300 pieces). Sales of 3,647,100 pieces, including 3,596,900 pieces of whole cattle hides, were outstanding on December 31 and carried over to the 2007 marketing year. Exports of 163,900 pieces—all whole cattle hides—were reported for Dec. 29-31, with China (87,300 pieces), South Korea (42,800 pieces) and Taiwan (18,500 pieces) the main destinations. Accumulated exports of hides and skins were 24,560,300 pieces, down 7 per cent from the prior year’s total of 26,469,400 pieces. Exports for January 1-4 of 169,500 pieces, with 168,200 pieces being whole cattle hides, were mostly to China (75,200 pieces), South Korea (35,800 pieces), Hong Kong (13,400 pieces), Taiwan (13,400 pieces) and Japan (11,000 pieces)
Net sales of wet blues for the 2007 marketing year (which began January 1) totalled 46,700 hides. The main buyers were China (13,100 unsplit and 2,900 grain splits), Mexico (13,000 grain splits), South Korea (6,200 grain splits), the Dominican Republic (4,600 grain splits) and Thailand (4,000 grain splits). A total of 292,200 hides were outstanding on December 31 and carried over to the 2007 marketing year. Exports of 16,700 hides were reported for December 29-31, with China (5,200 unsplit), Germany (4,000 grain splits) and Italy (2,900 unsplit) the primary destinations. Accumulated exports of wet blues totalled 5,911,900 hides, up 13 per cent from the 5,217,500 hides exported during the 2005 marketing year. Exports for Jan. 1-4 were 84,000 hides, with Italy (25,800 unsplit), Hong Kong (20,900 unsplit), China (11,400 unsplit and 2,000 grain splits) and Mexico (5,900 grain splits and 2,800 unsplit) the major destinations. Net sales of splits totalled 438,700 pounds for the 2007 marketing year, with the major buyer being South Korea (439,800 pounds), which was partially offset by decreases for Hong Kong (1,100 pounds). A total of 9,866,700 pounds were outstanding on December 31 and carried over to the 2007 marketing year. No exports of splits were reported for December 31. Accumulated exports of splits totalled 52,476,900 pounds, down 21 per cent from the prior year’s total of 66,626,200 pounds. Exports of 321,900 pounds were reported for January 1-4, with Hong Kong (186,900 pounds) and Italy (135,000 pounds) the destinations.
