Cattle slaughterings up 14.5% in March
The number of cattle slaughtered in March 2006 was 14.5% higher than in March
2005.
A comparison of March 2006 and 2005 figures shows that:
_ Sheep slaughterings decreased by 16.5%
_ Pig slaughterings decreased by 4.7%
The number of cattle slaughterings in January-March 2006 was 22.4% higher than the corresponding 2005 figure. Over the same period there was a decrease of 6.6% in sheep slaughterings and 1.1% in pig slaughterings.
EU-25 sheep slaughtering figures for the periods January to December 2004 and 2005 decreased by 1.1%.
