Cattle slaughterings down 9.2% in July
The number of cattle slaughtered in July 2005 was 9.2% lower than in July 2004.
A comparison of July 2005 and 2004 figures shows that:
- Sheep slaughterings decreased by 7.6%.
- Pig slaughterings increased by 0.1%.
The number of sheep slaughterings in January-July 2005 was 5.5% higher than the corresponding 2004 figure. Over the same period there was a decrease of 6.5% in cattle slaughterings, while pig slaughterings decreased by 3.2%.
EU-15 cattle slaughtering figures between the periods January to April 2004 and
2005 decreased by 6.1%. Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom recorded decreases of 13.6%, 3.3%, 1.5% and 0.9% respectively.
