The number of cattle slaughtered in March 2005 was 6.7% lower than in March
2004.
A comparison of March 2005 and 2004 figures shows that : Sheep slaughterings increased by 38.1%. Pig slaughterings decreased by 1.8%.The number of sheep slaughterings in January-March 2005 was 20.8% higher than the corresponding 2004 figure. Over the same period there was a decrease of 16.1% in cattle slaughterings, while pig slaughterings decreased by 7.7%.EU-15 cattle slaughtering figures between the periods January to December 2003and 2004 increased marginally. The United Kingdom, Germany and Italy recorded increases of 4.4%, 4.3% and 0.2% respectively. France recorded a decrease of 4.0%.
