Hides and Skins: Net sales of 187,100 pieces were 53 per cent below the previous week and 55 per cent under the prior 4-week average. Whole cattle hide sales of 169,900 pieces were primarily for China (64,800 pieces) and South Korea (55,100 pieces). In addition, whole cattle hide net sales of 3,500 pieces for delivery in the 2005 marketing year (which began January 1) resulted as increases for China (3,500 pieces) and Japan (800 pieces) were partially offset by decreases for Thailand (800 pieces). Exports of 247,100 pieces were down 48 per cent from the previous week and 65 per cent under the prior 4-week average. Whole cattle hide exports of 237,900 pieces were mainly for South Korea (85,300 pieces), China (77,800 pieces), Taiwan (21,400 pieces), Hong Kong (19,000 pieces), and Mexico (13,200 pieces).
Net sales of 87,500 wet blues (mainly unsplit) were up 85 per cent from the prior week, but down 27 per cent from the previous 4-week average. The primary buyers were Hong Kong (42,100 unsplit) and China (24,200 unsplit). Exports of 100,900 hides were up 41 per cent from the previous week and 1 per cent above the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Italy (33,200 unsplit), China (28,600 unsplit and 1,200 grain split), Taiwan (18,700 unsplit), and Hong Kong (10,300 unsplit). Net sales of splits totalling 3,454,100 pounds were 35 per cent above the previous week and 77 per cent over the prior 4-week average. The major buyers were Hong Kong (1,550,000 pounds), Italy (1,388,900 pounds, including 308,900 pounds late reporting), and China (381,600 pounds). Exports of 1,712,900 pounds were down 29 per cent from the previous week and 12 per cent under the prior 4-week average. The major destinations were Hong Kong (755,000 pounds, including 75,600 late reporting), China (358,500 pounds, including 22,900 pounds late reporting), Italy (350,900 pounds), and South Korea (200,000 pounds).
