US export sales for week ending 09/09/2004

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 474,400 pieces were 27 percent above the previous week and 10 percent over the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide sales of 449,900 pieces were primarily for South Korea (164,600 pieces), China (101,700 pieces), and Taiwan (81,600 pieces).  Exports of 356,800 pieces were 13 percent below the previous week and 19 percent under the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 333,100 pieces were mainly for China (130,600 pieces) and South Korea (108,300 pieces).  

 Net sales of 127,300 wet blues (mainly unsplit) were three and one-tenth times the prior week and up 73 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary buyers were Hong Kong (42,500 unsplit and 8,000 grain split), Italy (32,100 unsplit), Taiwan (23,600 unsplit), and South Korea (10,500 unsplit).  Exports of 75,200 hides were 12 percent under the previous week and 30 percent below the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Hong Kong (20,400 unsplit and 4,300 grain split) and Italy (21,900 unsplit).  Net sales of splits totaling 1,848,500 pounds were 19 percent under the previous week, but 32 percent above the prior 4-week average.  The buyers were Hong Kong (886,500 pounds), China (534,000 pounds), and Mexico (428,000 pounds).  Exports of 1,554,500 pounds were 16 percent below the previous week and 13 percent less than the prior 4-week average.  The major destinations were Hong Kong (1,007,200 pounds), Mexico (285,800 pounds), and China (173,900 pounds).
