US EXPORT SALES FOR WEEK ENDING 05/08/2004
Hides and Skins: Net sales of 338,900 pieces were 31 percent below the previous week and 25 percent under the prior 4-week average. Whole cattle hide sales of 320,800 pieces were primarily for China (103,500 pieces) and South Korea (89,700 pieces). Exports of 514,700 pieces were down 7 percent from the previous week, but up 5 percent from the prior 4-week average. Whole cattle hide exports of 489,300 pieces were mainly for China (148,900 pieces) and South Korea (135,500 pieces).
Net sales of 145,800 wet blues (mainly unsplit) were two and three-fifths times the previous week and 49 percent over the prior 4-week average. The primary buyers were Italy (77,400 unsplit, including late reporting of 69,300 unsplit), Hong Kong (26,200 unsplit and 9,900 grain split), Taiwan (20,700 unsplit), and South Korea (16,800 unsplit). Exports of 182,900 hides were two and one-tenth times the previous week and 80 percent above the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Italy (106,200 unsplit, including late reporting of 49,500 unsplit), Hong Kong (21,100 unsplit and 3,500 grain split), Taiwan (16,300 unsplit), and South Korea (12,900 unsplit and 2,100 grain split). Net sales of splits totaling 1,407,000 pounds were 29 percent below the previous week, but 1 percent above the prior 4-week average. The major buyers were Hong Kong (896,600 pounds), China (213,000 pounds), and Mexico (209,400 pounds). Exports of 1,571,400 pounds were down 29 percent from the previous week, but up 7 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were China (622,200 pounds, including late reporting of 450,000 pounds), Mexico (448,200 pounds), and Hong Kong (276,000 pounds).
