US export sales for week ending 01/07/2004

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 423,500 pieces were 19 percent below the previous week and 9 percent under the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide sales of 411,300 pieces were primarily for South Korea (186,700 pieces), China (100,000 pieces), and Japan (43,800 pieces).  Exports of 493,400 pieces were up 4 percent from the previous week, but down 5 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 477,200 pieces were mainly for China (174,800 pieces) and South Korea (134,000 pieces).  Note:  Accumulated exports of 16,200 pieces previously reported for China has been switched to Hong Kong. 

Net sales of 80,500 wet blues (mainly unsplit) were 30 percent lower than the previous week and 45 percent below the prior 4-week average.  The primary buyers were Hong Kong (35,500 unsplit and 1,400 grain split) and Taiwan (26,300 unsplit and 1,500 grain split).  Exports of 124,800 hides were 28 percent above the previous week and 4 percent over the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Hong Kong (34,200 unsplit and 8,900 grain split), Italy (36,900 unsplit), and Taiwan (15,800 unsplit and 4,900 grain split).  Net sales of splits totaling 1,140,200 pounds were 54 percent below the previous week and 49 percent under the prior 4-week average.  The primary buyers were China (766,700 pounds) and Hong Kong (328,500 pounds).  Exports of 2,134,900 pounds were up 12 percent from the previous week and 40 percent above the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Hong Kong (1,268,100 pounds), China (620,800 pounds), and Mexico (200,900 pounds).
