Cattle slaughterings down 9.1% in April

 

The number of cattle slaughtered in April 2004 was 9.1% lower than in April 2003.

A comparison of April 2004 and 2003 figures shows that

 

_ Sheep slaughterings increased by 6.9%.

_ Pig slaughterings decreased by 25.7%.

 

The number of sheep slaughterings in January-April 2004 was 8.3% higher than

the corresponding 2003 figure. Over the same period there was a decrease of 4.4%

in cattle slaughterings, while pig slaughterings also decreased by 9.0%.

 

Sheep slaughterings for the EU-15 decreased by 1.1% between 2002 and 2003.

Greece, Spain, France and the United Kingdom recorded decreases of 2.9%, 0.8%,

0.6% and 0.5% respectively.
