Cattle slaughterings up 10.5% in March
The number of cattle slaughtered in March 2004 was 10.5% higher than in March 2003. A comparison of March 2004 and 2003 figures shows that sheep slaughterings increased 37.8% and pig slaughterings rose 16.2%.
The number of sheep slaughterings in January-March 2004 was 9.3% higher than the corresponding 2003 figure. Over the same period there was a decrease of 2.7% in cattle slaughterings, while pig slaughterings also decreased 2.7%.
EU cattle slaughterings between January to December 2002 and 2003 decreased 1.6%.
