Hides and Skins: Net sales of 770,600 pieces (including 244,400 pieces reported late) were 54 percent above the previous week and 60 percent higher than the prior 4-week average. Whole cattle hide sales of 605,200 pieces were primarily for China (202,500 pieces, including 30,100 pieces reported late), South Korea (165,500 pieces, including 38,100 pieces reported late), Taiwan (51,900 pieces), and Italy (48,000 pieces, including 9,800 pieces reported late). Exports of 665,400 pieces (including 244,400 pieces reported late) were 40 percent above the previous week and 52 percent over the prior 4-week average. Whole cattle hide exports of 495,000 pieces were mainly for South Korea (172,600 pieces, including 38,100 pieces reported late), China (141,400 pieces, including 30,100 pieces reported late), and Taiwan (62,200 pieces). In addition, calf skins sales and exports of 31,500 pieces for India were the first reported activity since the program began.
Net sales of 156,100 wet blues (mainly unsplit) were 43 percent above the previous week and 34 percent more than the prior 4-week average. The primary buyers were Italy (57,000 unsplit and 4,600 grain split), China (39,600 unsplit), and South Korea (25,200 grain split and 10,200 unsplit). Exports of 176,300 hides were nearly three and one-fifth times the previous week and 78 percent above the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Italy (50,000 unsplit and 600 grain split), China (32,400 unsplit), Hong Kong (30,000 unsplit), and South Korea (18,500 unsplit and 2,300 grain split). Net sales of splits totaling 348,300 pounds--all to Hong Kong--were up 9 percent from the prior week, but down 72 percent from the previous 4-week average. Exports of 1,017,100 pounds were 26 percent below the previous week and 13 percent under the prior 4-week average. The main destinations were Italy (715,700 pounds), Hong Kong (131,300 pounds), and Mexico (125,100 pounds).
