Hides and Skins: Net sales of 386,400 pieces were down 29% from the previous week and 17% from the prior 4-week average. Whole cattle hide sales of 375,200 pieces were primarily for South Korea (133,600 pieces, including late reporting of 8,200 pieces), China (86,000 pieces, including late reporting of 16,200 pieces), and Taiwan (52,200 pieces). Sales of 8,600 pieces for delivery in the 2004 marketing year were for China. Exports of 354,000 pieces were 38% below the prior week and the previous 4-week average. Whole cattle hide exports of 349,500 pieces were mainly for China (141,300 pieces, including late reporting of 6,900 pieces), South Korea (77,400 pieces, including late reporting of 3,800 pieces), and Taiwan (44,000 pieces). Note: Accumulated exports of 5,300 pieces previously reported to Hong Kong were switched to China.
Net sales of 82,700 wet blues (mainly unsplit) were double the prior week and 11% over the previous 4-week average. The primary buyers were Hong Kong (46,200 unsplit and 500 grain split), Italy (7,800 unsplit), and South Korea (6,000 grain split). Exports of 91,900 hides were up 3% from the previous week and 7% from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Hong Kong (20,300 unsplit and 3,200 grain split), Mexico (8,300 grain split and 7,400 unsplit), and South Korea (7,500 unsplit and 6,600 grain split). Net sales of splits totalling 2,731,800 pounds improved from the previous week’s level and were nearly two and three-fifths times the prior 4-week average. The principal buyers were China (1,050,000 pounds), South Korea (590,000 pounds), and Taiwan (536,900 pounds). Exports of 1,895,500 pounds were 31% above the previous week and one-third over the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Italy (393,200 pounds), Hong Kong (375,100 pounds), South Korea (340,000 pounds), and Mexico (291,200 pounds).
