Chinese leather and leather goods trade January - September 2003

According to the China Leather Industries Association (CLIA), during the period January to September 2003 the country’s leather imports and exports continued to achieve great growth.

 

From March 2003, the monthly export value went into decline due to the SARS virus and the Iraq war, however in September the situation started to improve. During January-September, compared with the same period in 2002, total exports increased 18.8% to $12 billion, accounting for 3.9% of China’s total export value.

 

Footwear exports increased 14.6% to 3.7 billion pairs by quantity while the export value rose 15.7% to $9.18 billion. China’s imports of raw hides, leather and leather goods increased 15.2% to $3.2 billion, accounting for 1.1% of the country’s total import value.
