Hides and Skins: Net sales of 473,600 pieces were 78% above the previous week and 23% over the prior 4-week average. Whole cattle hide sales of 452,600 pieces were primarily for South Korea (236,300 pieces), Hong Kong (53,000 pieces), China (44,900 pieces), and Japan (39,600 pieces). Exports of 602,800 pieces were up 47% from the week earlier and 19% above the prior 4-week average. Whole cattle hide exports of 575,200 pieces were mainly for South Korea (253,800 pieces), China (134,100 pieces), and Taiwan (56,500 pieces).
Net sales of 28,900 wet blues (mainly unsplit) were down 59% from the prior week and 63% under the previous 4-week average. The primary buyers were Hong Kong (16,200 unsplit), South Korea (10,200 unsplit), and the Dominican Republic (8,500 unsplit). Decreases were reported for Taiwan (12,000 unsplit). Exports of 164,300 hides were two and one-third times the previous week and two times the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Italy (66,100 unsplit and 1,800 grain split), Taiwan (50,000 unsplit), Mexico (8,900 unsplit and 4,900 grain split), and Hong Kong (12,700 unsplit and 1,000 grain split). Net sales of splits totalling 76,400 pounds resulted as increases for Mexico (423,500 pounds) were partially offset by net decreases for Spain (326,000 pounds, including erroneous reporting of 500,000 pounds) and Hong Kong (21,100 pounds). Exports of 1,411,000 pounds were 22% below the prior week and 37% under the previous 4-week average. The primary destinations were Hong Kong (843,500 pounds), Mexico (253,500 pounds), and Spain (224,000 pounds, including late reporting of 50,000 pounds).
