US export sales for week ending 12/06/03

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 660,800 pieces were 27 percent above the previous week and 13 percent over the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide sales of 659,600 pieces were primarily for South Korea (199,400 pieces), China (154,800 pieces), and Japan (67,100 pieces).  Exports of 463,100 pieces were 5 percent more than the previous week, but 3 percent less than the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 456,600 pieces were mainly for South Korea (199,300 pieces), China (68,200 pieces), and Hong Kong (58,400 pieces).

Net sales of 147,300 wet blues (mainly unsplit) were 48 percent over the prior week and 38 percent over the previous 4-week average.  The principal buyer was Italy (122,900 unsplit and 4,800 grain split).  Exports of 83,400 hides were 9 percent below the previous week and the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Taiwan (19,700 unsplit and 1,700 grain split), Hong Kong (17,600 unsplit and 2,800 grain split), and Italy (16,600 unsplit and 3,400 grain split).  Net sales of splits totalling 730,000 pounds were 64 percent below the previous week’s level and 67 percent under the prior 4-week average.  The principal buyers were South Korea (291,000 pounds), Indonesia (250,000 pounds), and Hong Kong (212,500 pounds).  Exports of 1,361,200 pounds were 47 percent above the prior week, but 11 percent under the previous 4-week average.  The principal destinations were Hong Kong (490,700 pounds), South Korea (382,000 pounds), Italy (225,000 pounds), and Mexico (170,400 pounds).
