US export sales for week ending 22/05/03

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 501,700 pieces were 27 percent below the previous week and 2 percent under the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide sales of 494,500 pieces were primarily for South Korea (210,100 pieces), Japan (71,600 pieces), and China (68,100 pieces).  Exports of 452,300 pieces were 12 percent less than the previous week and 1 percent below the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 447,900 pieces were mainly for South Korea (189,600 pieces) and China (107,300 pieces). 

Net sales of 118,700 wet blues (mainly unsplit) were 16 percent above the prior week and 58 percent over the previous 4-week average.  The primary buyers were Hong Kong (46,800 unsplit and 2,100 grain split), Taiwan (21,100 unsplit), China (18,700 unsplit), and Mexico (8,300 grain split and 8,100 unsplit).  Exports of 90,500 hides were 18 percent under the previous week, but 11 percent above the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Hong Kong (32,600 unsplit and 2,800 grain split), Italy (18,400 unsplit), and Taiwan (13,900 unsplit and 3,600 grain split).  Sales of splits totalling 661,800 pounds dropped 87 percent from the previous week’s marketing-year high and were 73 percent below the prior 4-week average.  The main buyers were Hong Kong (264,700 pounds) and Indonesia (250,000 pounds).  Exports of 1,815,900 pounds were off 25 percent from the prior week’s marketing-year high and 5 percent less than the previous 4-week average.  The principal destinations were Hong Kong (852,700 pounds), Italy (360,000 pounds), South Korea (283,000 pounds), and Mexico (256,100 pounds).
