Hides and Skins
: Net sales of 424,600 pieces were 23% below the prior week and 22% under the 4-week average. Whole cattle hide sales of 323,900 pieces were primarily for South Korea (64,900 pieces), China (62,400 pieces), Taiwan (59,200 pieces), and Japan (50,300 pieces). Exports of 533,800 pieces were up 2% from the previous week, but down 1% from the 4-week average. Whole cattle hide shipments of 445,300 pieces were destined mainly for South Korea (170,900 pieces), China (115,900 pieces), and Japan (44,800 pieces).Net sales of 284,600 wet blues (primarily unsplit) were two and one-fifth times the 4-week average. The primary buyers were Hong Kong (108,600 unsplit and 4,700 grain split), Taiwan (99,700 unsplit), Mexico (19,500 unsplit and 11,000 grain split), and Italy (16,500 unsplit and 1,500 grain split). Exports of 111,700 hides were 12% over the previous week and 23% over the 4-week average. The primary destinations were Hong Kong (24,100 unsplit and 4,700 grain split), Taiwan (26,300 unsplit), and South Korea (18,400 unsplit). Net sales of splits totaling 642,000 pounds dropped 88% from the previous week’s high level and were 79% below the 4-week average. The major buyers were Hong Kong (348,500 pounds), Mexico (137,000 pounds), and South Korea (107,500 pounds). Exports of 2,100,000 pounds were 53% above the previous week and 44% over the 4-week average. Hong Kong (1,112,500 pounds) and South Korea (669,500 pounds) were the primary destinations.
