US export sales for week ending 12/09/2002

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 374,200 pieces--all whole cattle hides--were 34% below the prior week and 20% under the 4-week average.  The primary buyers were South Korea (149,900 pieces), Taiwan (69,200 pieces), and China (64,300 pieces).  Exports of 475,500 pieces were down 16% from the prior week and 13% from the 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide shipments of 470,100 pieces were destined mainly for China (168,500 pieces) and South Korea (152,900 pieces).

 Net sales of 40,300 wet blues were 62% below the prior week and the 4-week average.  The primary buyers were South Korea (8,400 grain split and 6,600 unsplit), Hong Kong (9,100 unsplit and 3,600 grain split), and Taiwan (7,300 unsplit).  Exports of 125,600 hides were 23% over the previous week and 18% over the 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Taiwan (26,200 unsplit), Hong Kong (20,100 unsplit and 3,600 grain split), and Italy (21,400 unsplit).  Net sales of splits totaling 1,290,300 pounds were 61% below the week earlier and 28% under the 4-week average.  The major buyers were South Korea (1,104,000 pounds) and Hong Kong (190,000 pounds).  Exports of 564,300 pounds were off 56% from the prior week and 61% from the 4-week average.  The destinations were Italy (180,000 pounds), Hong Kong (100,000 pounds), Indonesia (98,200 pounds), China (97,400 pounds), and Mexico (88,700 pounds).
