The number of cattle slaughtered in October 2004 was 7.2% lower than in October2003.
A comparison of October 2004 and 2003 figures shows that (see table ):Sheep slaughterings increased by 23.3%.
Pig slaughterings decreased by 23.1%. See graph.
The number of sheep slaughterings in January-October 2004 was 10.4% higher
than the corresponding 2003 figure. Over the same period there was a decrease of
5.8% in cattle slaughterings, while pig slaughterings also decreased by 7.2%.
EU-15 pig slaughtering figures between the periods January to June 2003 and 2004
increased by 0.4%. Germany, Netherlands and Denmark recorded increases of
3.5%, 3.1% and 2.2% respectively. France recorded a decrease of 2.8%.
