The number of cattle slaughtered in September 2004 was 5.8% lower than in
September 2003.
A comparison of September 2004 and 2003 figures shows that:
Sheep slaughterings increased by 14.8%. Pig slaughterings increased by 25.3%.
The number of sheep slaughterings in January-September 2004 was 8.8% higher than the corresponding 2003 figure. Over the same period there was a decrease of 5.8% in cattle slaughterings, while pig slaughterings also decreased by 5.2%.
EU-15 cattle slaughtering figures between the periods January to June 2003 and 2004 decreased by 0.2%.
