US export sales for week ending 06/03/04

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 289,500 pieces were 30 percent below the previous week and 49 percent under the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide sales of 249,400 pieces were primarily for South Korea (81,900 pieces) and China (71,400 pieces).  Exports of 416,000 pieces were down 17 percent from the previous week and 22 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 367,100 pieces were mainly for China (123,800 pieces), South Korea (96,600 pieces), and Taiwan (53,600 pieces).  

Net sales of 174,800 wet blues (mainly unsplit) were more than two and one-half times the previous week and two and one-tenth times the prior 4-week average.  The primary buyers were Hong Kong (78,800 unsplit), China (52,100 unsplit), and Taiwan (33,200 unsplit).  Exports of 84,500 hides were 29 percent below the previous week and 17 percent under the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Hong Kong (25,100 unsplit and 2,000 grain split), China (16,600 unsplit), South Korea (10,800 unsplit), and Thailand (7,900 unsplit).  Net sales of splits totaling 813,000 pounds were 55 percent below the previous week and 65 percent lower than the prior 4-week average.  The primary buyer was Hong Kong (920,700 pounds).  Exports of 549,500 pounds--a marketing-year low--were down 62 percent from the previous week and 67 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were Hong Kong (336,100 pounds), Mexico (127,300 pounds), and Italy (86,100 pounds).
