US export sales for week ending 05/02/04

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 322,400 pieces were up 22 percent from the previous week, but down 11 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide sales of 311,200 pieces were primarily for China (127,600 pieces) and South Korea (93,400 pieces).  Exports of 329,200 pieces were 4 percent below the previous week and 17 percent under the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 326,900 pieces were mainly for China (148,000 pieces), South Korea (82,900 pieces), and Taiwan (43,100 pieces).  

 

Net sales of 88,400 wet blues (mainly unsplit) were 90 percent above the previous week and 4 percent over the prior 4-week average.  The primary buyers were Hong Kong (14,800 unsplit and 11,300 grain split), Thailand (15,100 grain split and 1,200 unsplit), Mexico (7,900 unsplit and 5,600 grain split), and Taiwan (10,000 unsplit).  Exports of 71,800 hides were down 3 percent from the previous week and 13 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Hong Kong (31,200 unsplit) and Mexico (8,900 grain split and 3,900 unsplit).  Net sales of splits totalling 790,200 pounds improved from the prior week’s low level, but were 68 percent below the previous 4-week average.  The primary buyers were Hong Kong (394,700 pounds), Taiwan (218,000 pounds), and Mexico (100,000 pounds).  Exports of 1,899,500 pounds were 67 percent above the previous week and 14 percent over the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were Mexico (624,800 pounds), China (503,500 pounds), Hong Kong (472,900 pounds), and Italy (298,200 pounds).
