Hides and Skins: Net sales of 352,100 pieces were 1 percent above the previous week, but 17 percent under the prior 4-week average. Whole cattle hide sales of 311,200 pieces were primarily for South Korea (139,000 pieces) and China (94,500 pieces). In addition, whole cattle hide sales of 2,400 pieces for delivery in the 2004 marketing year were all for Thailand. Exports of 373,500 pieces were 10 percent more than the prior week, but 16 percent lower than the previous 4-week average. Whole cattle hide exports of 331,000 pieces were mainly for South Korea (94,400 pieces) and China (86,900 pieces).
Net sales of 79,800 wet blues (mainly unsplit) were 61 percent below the prior week and 23 percent under the previous 4-week average. The primary buyers were Taiwan (35,000 unsplit), Italy (33,200 unsplit), and South Korea (15,700 unsplit). Decreases were reported for China (16,600 unsplit), Portugal (8,400 grain split), and Thailand (4,000 grain split). Exports of 88,400 hides were 9 percent below the previous week, but 6 percent over the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Hong Kong (36,400 unsplit and 4,000 grain split), South Korea (15,000 unsplit and 2,500 grain split), and Italy (14,100 unsplit). Net sales of splits totalling 1,471,300 pounds were four and two-thirds times the previous week, but down 30 percent from the prior 4-week average. The principal buyer was Hong Kong (1,177,200 pounds). Exports of 3,353,000 pounds were more than three and one-tenth times the previous week and 90 percent over the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Hong Kong (1,485,100 pounds, including 478,700 pounds reported late), Italy (747,400 pounds, including 301,600 pounds reported late), China (556,800 pounds, including 422,700 pounds reported late), and Mexico (373,200 pounds, including 165,900 pounds reported late).
