US export sales for week ending 23/10/03

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 410,700 pieces were up 8 percent from the previous week, but down 17 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide sales of 384,200 pieces were primarily for South Korea (124,200 pieces) and China (97,600 pieces).  Exports of 612,100 pieces were up 28 percent from the week earlier and 37 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 582,500 pieces were mainly for South Korea (238,200 pieces), China (98,500 pieces), and Hong Kong (80,400 pieces).

 

Net sales of 125,900 wet blues (mainly unsplit) were 69 percent above the prior week and 25 percent over the previous 4-week average.  The primary buyers were Taiwan (31,200 unsplit), China (24,300 grain split and 2,600 unsplit), Hong Kong (25,000 unsplit), South Korea (15,600 unsplit), and the Dominican Republic (12,200 grain split).  Exports of 78,800 hides were 21 percent above the previous week and 12 percent more than the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Hong Kong (19,300 unsplit and 3,200 grain split), Mexico (10,000 grain split and 4,900 unsplit), Italy (12,100 unsplit), and South Korea (10,600 unsplit and 1,400 grain split).  Net sales of splits totalling 2,176,100 pounds were two and one-quarter times the prior week and 1 percent over the previous 4-week average.  The primary buyers were Hong Kong (1,095,700 pounds), China (400,000 pounds), and Italy (300,000 pounds).  Exports of 1,164,300 pounds were 38 percent below the previous week and 43 percent under the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were Hong Kong (956,400 pounds) and Mexico (207,900 pounds).
