Chinese leather and leather goods imports/exports January-July 2003

According to the China Leather Industries Association (CLIA), during the period January - July 2003, the country’s imports and exports of leather and leather products continued to grow.

 

Exports increased 21.3% to $8.93 billion, compared with the same period in 2002, accounting for 3.9% of China’s total export value. Growth was the greatest in the fur garments and leather gloves sector, increasing 136.2% to $100 million and 55.7% to $1.07 billion respectively. Leather garments increased 28.3% to $1.07 billion, raw hides rose 26.4% to $670million and leather shoes went up 13.5% to $3.04 billion. The export of footwear from January - July 2003, increased 15.3% to 2.87 billion pairs by quantity and 17.1% to $6.98 billion by value.

 

China’s imports of raw hides, leather and leather goods, meanwhile, increased 18.9 % from $2.45 billion, accounting for 1.1% of the total import value.
