Cattle slaughterings up 3.1% in July
The number of cattle slaughtered in July 2003 was 3.1% higher than in July 2002..
A comparison of July 2003 and 2002 figures shows that:
Sheep slaughterings decreased by 23.2%.
Pig slaughterings decreased by 0.6%. See graph.
The number of sheep slaughterings in January-July 2003 was 5.3% higher than the
corresponding 2002 figure. Over the same period there was an increase of 4.4% in
the number of cattle slaughterings, while pig slaughterings decreased by 7.3%. See
EU pig slaughterings figures for the periods January to April 2002 and 2003
increased by 1.1%.
