US export sales for week ending 28/08/2003

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 266,400 pieces were 28 percent below the previous week and 41 percent under the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide sales of 254,300 pieces were primarily for China (74,800 pieces), South Korea (63,000 pieces), and Taiwan (33,000 pieces).  Exports of 409,100 pieces were down 26 percent from the week earlier and 21 percent below the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 400,000 pieces were mainly for China (126,700 pieces), South Korea (114,100 pieces), and Japan (52,600 pieces). 

Net sales of 71,000 wet blues (mainly unsplit) were down 21 percent from the prior week and 26 percent under the previous 4-week average.  The primary buyers were Hong Kong (22,200 unspilt and 700 grain split), South Korea (20,500 unspilt and 1,400 grain split), and Taiwan (15,000 unsplit).  Exports of 70,600 hides were 23 percent below the previous week and the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Hong Kong (22,600 unsplit and 2,400 grain split), South Korea (9,200 unsplit and 6,600 grain split), and Taiwan (11,600 unsplit).  Net sales of splits totaling 1,109,800 pounds were down 72 percent from the previous week’s level and 62 percent below the prior 4-week average.  The principal buyers were Hong Kong (576,800 pounds), China (273,800 pounds), and Taiwan (176,000 pounds).  Exports of 1,818,400 pounds were 5 percent below the prior week and 15 percent under the previous 4-week average.  Hong Kong (1,260,400 pounds) was the primary destination.
