Hides and Skins: Net sales of 581,500 pieces were 12 percent above the previous week and 43 percent higher than the prior 4-week average. Whole cattle hide sales of 565,000 pieces were primarily for South Korea (185,900 pieces), China (161,400 pieces), Hong Kong (68,000 pieces), and Taiwan (61,000 pieces). Exports of 560,900 pieces were up 20 percent from the week earlier and 14 above the prior 4-week average. Whole cattle hide exports of 548,200 pieces were mainly for South Korea (159,300 pieces), China (153,400 pieces), Taiwan (57,900 pieces), Hong Kong (52,000 pieces), and Japan (49,200 pieces).
Net sales of 53,500 wet blues (mainly unsplit) were 61 percent below the prior week and 38 percent under the previous 4-week average. The primary buyers were South Korea (27,400 unsplit and 8,800 grain split), Italy (6,000 unsplit), and Mexico (5,700 grain split). Exports of 46,500 hides were down 60 percent from the previous week and 41 percent below the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Mexico (6,600 grain split and 6,000 unsplit), Italy (10,900 unsplit), South Korea (4,200 grain split and 2,400 unsplit), and Hong Kong (6,400 unsplit and 700 grain split). Net sales of splits totalling 5,705,700 pounds improved significantly from the previous week and the 4-week average. The principal buyers were Hong Kong (3,631,100 pounds, including 3,300,000 pounds reported late), Italy (1,054,200 pounds), and Mexico (592,000, including 550,000 pounds reported late). Exports of 2,991,700 pounds were two and one-tenth times the prior week and 87 percent above the previous 4-week average. The primary destinations were Hong Kong (2,203,100 pounds, including 1,350,000 pounds reported late), China (486,400 pounds, including 400,000 pounds reported late), and Mexico (170,000 pounds--all late reporting).
