US export sales for week ending 05/06/03

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 519,300 pieces were 17 percent below the previous week and 13 percent under the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide sales of 505,700 pieces were primarily for China (188,500 pieces), South Korea (75,600 pieces), and Hong Kong (70,400 pieces).  Exports of 441,500 pieces were 13 percent below the previous week and 8 percent less than the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 437,200 pieces were mainly for South Korea (142,500 pieces), China (90,900 pieces), and Taiwan (54,600 pieces). 

 

Net sales of 99,400 wet blues (mainly unsplit) were 7 percent below the prior week and 8 percent under the previous 4-week average.  The primary buyers were South Korea (38,500 unsplit and 3,100 grain split), Taiwan (18,800 unsplit and 3,300 grain split), and Hong Kong (19,500 unsplit).  Exports of 91,300 hides were 17 percent above the previous week and 7 percent over the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Hong Kong (39,800 unsplit), Taiwan (14,100 unsplit and 4,200 grain split), and Italy (13,900 unsplit and 2,800 grain split).  Net sales of splits totaling 2,011,900 pounds were nearly two and one-tenth times the previous week, but 3 percent below the prior 4-week average.  The principal buyers were Hong Kong (1,395,900 pounds), South Korea (270,000 pounds), and Mexico (256,000 pounds).  Exports of 927,800 pounds were 7 percent below the prior week and 49 percent under the previous 4-week average.  The principal destinations were Hong Kong (477,900 pounds), Italy (225,000 pounds), and Mexico (180,000 pounds).
