Chinese leather and leather goods imports/exports January – April, 2003

According to the China Leather Industries Association (CLIA), during the period January to April 2003, the country’s imports and exports of leather and leather products continued to grow. Growth in China’s footwear market was significantly higher compared with the year earlier period. The growth rate for imports, meanwhile, was higher than that of exports.

 

The top ten leather and raw materials importers (excluding fur) were Hong Kong (accounting for 54.3% of the total export value), South Korea (8.8%), Italy (6.9%), Taiwan (6.6%), Spain (4.3%), Vietnam (2.5%), the US (2.1%), Thailand (1.4%), Indonesia (1.2%) and Singapore (1.0%) The import value of the latter countries and regions accounted for 89% of the total.

 

The top five export markets were Taiwan (accounting for 16.8% of the total export value), South Korea (16.4%), the US (15.5%), Italy (7.8%) and Australia (7%).
