US export sales for week ending 15/05/03

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 688,600 pieces were 22 percent over the previous week and 52 percent above the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide sales of 606,100 pieces were primarily for South Korea (209,100 pieces), China (149,000 pieces), and Taiwan (67,900 pieces).  Exports of 515,100 pieces were 16 percent above the prior week and 17 percent more than the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 427,200 pieces were mainly for South Korea (120,400 pieces), China (118,000 pieces), and Italy (45,100 pieces).

Net sales of 102,000 wet blues (mainly unsplit) were 2 percent below the prior week, but 62 percent above the previous 4-week average.  The primary buyers were Hong Kong (54,800 unsplit), Taiwan (22,500 unsplit), and Italy (7,200 unsplit and 2,800 grain split).  Exports of 110,800 hides were 78 percent higher than the previous week and 29 percent over the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Hong Kong (40,900 unsplit and 1,400 grain split), Taiwan (36,500 unsplit and 2,900 grain split), and Italy (13,700 unsplit).  Net sales of splits totaling 5,088,700 pounds--a marketing-year high--were nearly three and one-fifth times the previous week and two and three-quarter times the prior 4-week average.  The main buyers were Hong Kong (2,617,600 pounds), Italy (1,350,000 pounds), and China (590,000 pounds).  Exports of 2,405,700 pounds--a marketing-year high--were 18 percent over the prior week and 49 percent above the previous 4-week average.  The principal destinations were Hong Kong (1,277,600 pounds), Italy (425,000 pounds), and South Korea (291,200 pounds).
